Stargate SG-1 is a Canadian science fiction television series that is really worth watching and, unlike most science fiction stories, is set in the present and not in the future. This series (1997) is based on the 1994 film "Stargate". The television series tells the adventures of the military task force "SG-1" - consisting of two US Air Force officers, an archaeologist and an alien - who visit distant planets. All of these worlds are outside our solar system and are connected by a network of Stargates.
The series was canceled after ten seasons, much to the chagrin of fans. Until then, it was listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running science fiction series. Efforts to revive the series have so far failed due to studio - but the former producers and actors would be thrilled to be back.
What makes Stargate SG-1 so special?
→ The fans - They have been loyal to the series for over 25 years.
→ The actors - Many of them still identify with the series and its characters today.
→ The producers - Even after 20 years, they are still fighting for a continuation of the series.
→ The ideas - New ideas, also with the help of A.I., to keep Stargate alive.
→ The willingness to help - Fans and stars still help people and animals in need today!
→ The conventions - A large Stargate family with fantastic cosplay.
WHAT IS THE STARGATE PROGRAM?
" Sir, with respect!
This program is probably the most important endeavor in human history."
Colonel Dr. Samantha Carter, Ph.D.
First of all, the Stargate is the large stone ring that we see in the picture here. Of course, this is not just decorative, but has a special ability. With the Stargate, you can travel to distant worlds in seconds, as the entire Milky Way system is equipped with a network of Stargates. Later we will learn that there is also such a network of Stargates in the Pegasus Galaxy.
To even get to know the Stargate and its concept, we have to watch the 1994 feature film "Stargate". Roland Emmerich shot the film in the USA and its main actors were Kurt Russell and James Spader. In the film, we meet USAF Colonel Jack O'Neil and the archaeologist Dr. Daniel Jackson, Ph.D. We are also shown the discovery of the Stargate and the Stargate program is introduced. We learn little about the time in which the whole thing takes place, but we do know that the bunker complex in Cheyenne Mountain plays a role. Since the feature film did not receive a sequel, one could assume that "Stargate" was relatively short-lived.

Stargate SG-1
MGM, who own the rights to "Stargate", decided to take up the subject again in 1996 and developed the TV series "Stargate SG-1" with TV star Richard Dean Anderson, known from "MacGyver", as the leader of a team of extremely trained and specialized soldiers. Also in the cast this time were US Air Force Colonel Jack O'Neill (now with two Ls) and Dr. Daniel Jackson. New additions were Teal'c and Major General George Hammond as head of the Stargate Command. Major Dr. Samantha Carter, Ph.D. was the only woman in this "boys club"; a highly intelligent, brilliant scientist and courageous officer, but she had to earn O'Neill's respect first.
Although the series is science fiction, it is set in Colorado Springs in 1997 and was planned by MGM for just two, maximum three seasons. The good selection of actors, who harmonized perfectly with one another, the wonderful landscape in British Columbia / Canada and an exceptional team spirit on set were all factors that guaranteed the success of the series " SG-1".
Over the course of the series, the team of writers, producers and actors worked together very well and the quality increased enormously during the first season and remained at a high level. Instead of two or three seasons, it ended up being 10 seasons. The 9th and 10th seasons were received with mixed reviews by fans, as the departure of O'Neill and Hammond meant that two important characters were missing. But without prejudice, seasons 9 and 10 also absolutely deserve a place in the fans' spotlight and are good episodes in their own way.
What happens in the series?
Based on the 1994 MGM film "StarGate", Richard Dean Anderson starred as Colonel Jack O'Neill in this science fiction adventure series. He is a soldier who has to lead a team of highly qualified experts on a secret mission through a network of Stargates that are located across the universe. In most episodes, "SG-1" goes to other planets, where their main task is to find weapons against the Goa'uld. However, they are usually more concerned with preventing evil aliens from reaching Earth or correcting mistakes that they made unintentionally as inexperienced newcomers to the galaxy. The aliens take some getting used to, especially at the beginning, as they are recruited from the realm of the gods of various cultures, such as Ra, Hathor, Anubis, Osiris but also Nirrti, Thor, Loki or Kali. The episodes contain many science fiction clichés, jokes and allusions to other science fiction series and also to films of other genres.
"Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis" are solid works of art, made with a lot of heart and understanding. With well-known stars from the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Great Britain and who knows where, as well as a lot of action and fantasy, they have created entertaining entertainment for all sections of the population! "Stargate" also has a very special quality: Even today - more than 25 years after it was first broadcast - it still has a unique chemistry that is transmitted from the actors to the crew and the audience. "Stargate" still has a huge fandom today, the actors are as popular today as they were then and many of the actors still identify with their characters from "Stargate"!
The SGC Team
The actors play a key role in the success or failure of a series or film. While Kurt Russell played a humorless, depressed and suicidal Jack O'Neil in the 1994 feature film, Richard Dean Anderson took a completely different approach in the Stargate series. His Jack O'Neill (with 2!L) is full of wit and humor, but also has his serious side.
James Spader credibly and convincingly played the unconventional Daniel Jackson in the film, whose theories are only laughed at by his scientific colleagues. Michael Shanks, who took on the role of Daniel Jackson in the series, not only looked very similar to James Spader, but he also stuck very closely to his original character and was convincing in this role.
In both the film and the series, Erik Avari plays the clan leader Kasuf, and Alex Cruz plays his son Skarra.
Also appearing in the film and the series are Kasuf's daughter Shau'ri/Sha're (Mili Avital/film - Vaitiare Bandera/series) and Catherine Langford (Viveca Lindfors/film - Elizabeth Hoffman/series), who discovered the Stargate in Giza together with her father.
Sam Carter, Janet Fraiser, George Hammond and Teal'c are not seen in the film. These characters were only introduced in the series.

The civil Stargate personnel

Christopher Judge
* 1964 - Los Angeles - California / USA
Teal'c is a Jaffa and was the "First Prime" (the supreme commander) of the Goa'uld Apophis. After Teal'c realized that the Goa'uld were not gods, he joined the SG team to fight against the enslavement of its people.

Corin Nemec
* 1971 - Little Rock - AK / USA
Jonas Quinn comes from Kelowna on the planet Langara. His greatest ability is to absorb and process a large amount of information in a short period of time. For personal reasons, he initially had a very strained relationship with Colonel Jack O'Neill and SG-1. Eventually he was assigned to this very team, but was never able to really fit in.

Claudia Black
* 1972 - Sydney / Australia
Vala Mal Doran is a likeable crook who doesn't take other people's property seriously. Over time, the former enemy of SG1 becomes a valuable member of the unit, not least because General O'Neill and General Landry always turn a blind eye when Vala once again takes a very unconventional approach to solving a problem.
Stargate - SG-1
My personal vote for this series:
STARGATE SG-1
Stargate SG-1 is the sequel to the feature film "Stargate"
(Canada / 1997 - 2007 / 10 seasons / 214 episodes / 2 feature films (2008))

The series tells the adventures of the task force "SG-1" - one of several SG units - which visits distant planets. All of these worlds are outside our solar system and are connected to one another by a network of stargates. This can be used to establish a wormhole connection to Stargates on other planets. Teams of soldiers and scientists explore the planets and look for advanced technology. In doing so, they are confronted with new civilizations and dangers.

STARGATE ON A SMALL SCALE...
This display shows a scene in a forest: Sam Carter is inspecting the M.A.L.P. while Jack O'Neill is talking to Sam's dog. Teal'c and Daniel are having a conversation with their good friend, the Asgard Thor. From left to right you can see Major Sam Carter, Colonel Jack O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson in the green field BDUs, Teal'c is wearing the Black Ops BDUs and Thor is also there. I used a laser print of a picture of the Canadian rainforest as a background. Wood, moss and stones served as decoration. The DHD and the M.A.L.P. come from our 3D printer.
Info: BDU = Battle Dress Uniform. / SGC = StarGate Command - Stargate Command Center
Stargate model building
Model building has always been something I really enjoyed doing. Even as a child, I recreated scenes from my favorite shows on a "large scale". For example, I built a submarine in my room using simple materials to recreate the TV show "Flipper." I had to use horses to recreate "Bonanza." Actually, I had a black and white dappled horse. Then there was the model building itself. I had lots of car and motorcycle models. There were also old sailing ships and airplanes that could fly. And now there are models of "Stargate" on my shelf that I can enjoy again and again!
I waited a long time, but finally I got it, the Hallmark Christmas ornament "Stargate SG 1". It was a laborious search, because most of the ornaments that were offered were either far too expensive ($200+) or broken (light or sound didn't work) or both. With this one in excellent condition including the original packaging, the price and condition were right. Sometimes it's worth waiting for something.
Original Funko Pops had to be used for this model. Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill are originally from the US Marines series by Funko and I modified them slightly. The Zat and the P90 come from leftover stocks from previous models. Little Sam Carter comes from the USAF series by Funko and only needed a bit of paint. She is also armed with a P90. Teal'c is from the WWE Anniversary Edition, the staff is also from Diamond Select. A laser print of the Canadian rainforest serves as the background. The second Sam Carter is also an original Funko USAF figure. Here I only adjusted the uniform slightly so that she can be recognized as an officer.
Stargate on a very small scale
I built this model on a very small scale. It is in 1:87 or H0. The terrain comes from model railway construction, as does the little Sam Carter and the trees. The tree trunks are small branches and the tufts of grass are dried moss. The Stargate, the DHD, the M.A.L.P. and the F.R.E.D. come from the 3D printer. This was my very first Stargate diorama and came before the "Diamond Select" models.
Diamond Select models
My "Diamond Select" Stargate action figures in the order of their arrival:
1. Sam Carter (Field BDU) - 2. Vala Mal Doran (Field BDU) - 3. Jack O'Neill (Field BDU) - 4. Daniel Jackson (Black Ops) - 5. Cameron Mitchell (Field BDU) - 6./ 7. Teal'c (Black Ops) together with Sam Carter (Desert BDU) as a surprise guest! - 8. another surprise: Sam Carter (Atlantis) - 9. Jack O'Neill (Desert BDU) - 10./ 11. Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard (Field Ops) together - 12. Repli-Carter - 13. Rodney McKay (Field Ops) - 14. Vala Mal Doran (Avalon) - 15. Teyla Emmagan (Field Ops) - 16. Dr. Jennifer Keller - 17. Teal'c (Desert BDU) - 18. Thor (Asgard) - 19. Daniel Jackson (Desert BDU) - 20. Sam Carter (Prototype) - 21. Ronon Dex - 22. Daniel Jackson (Field BDU) - 23. Sam Carter (Black Ops) - 24. Jack O'Neill (General BDUs) - 25. Jack O'Neill (Black Ops) - [26. Sam Carter (BDUs) - 27. Daniel Jackson (BDUs) - 28. Cam Mitchell (BDUs) - 29. Vala Mal Doran (Avalon)]
Stargate Atlantis - In Action
A model of an Atlantis expedition mission. As a background, I used a laser print of the coast near Nanaimo / Vancouver Island / BC and added an Atlantis Stargate. Sand, stones, dried plants and Iceland moss form the ground on which the figures stand. The figures are from Diamond Select and show, from left, Col. Sam Carter, Lt. Col. John Sheppard, Teyla Emmagan, Dr. Rodney McKay and Ronon Dex on a mission!
SG-1 in the desert
My next diorama was a desert landscape with natural elements like stones and moss. I also used old, dry wood. The red sand is from Bryce Canyon / Utah. The background is a laser print from an original SG-1 scene that I took as a screenshot. The broken Stargate in the background is a 3D print that was then hand-colored and finished by me. The dog tags are handmade, the ball chains are original but actually the smallest size I had.
Here you can see Teal'c, Colonel Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson and Major Sam Carter in their desert BDUs
Replicators in Atlantis
Repli-Carter and Dr. Elizabeth Weir are researching whatever. I don't know if they are replicators or not, so be careful around them!
In the background we see a laser print of an Atlantis lab, on the desk in the foreground is an Orban Naquada generator, a ZPM and an SGC Naquada generator..
In Merlin's Realm
Our brave heroes from SG-1 find themselves in a medieval village. Here, too, the background is a laser print of a picture of a village. The floor on which the two are standing is made of hay. Wood and moss were also used as decoration here. The figures, like all the others, are very detailed. Even the size of the figures varies, just like the actors. In this diorama you can see part of SG-1, namely Vala Mal Doran and Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell in the green BDUs.
Daniel and Vala - a special adventure
Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran are involuntarily connected. They have to go through a lot in their search for an antidote. Here, too, a laser print serves as the background and natural materials as the floor covering. Vala is wearing her leather outfit from "Avalon", Daniel is wearing the Black Ops.
The following actors portrayed the SGC personnel shown here in the series: Richard Dean Anderson (Major General Jack O'Neill) / Amanda Tapping (Colonel Dr. Samantha Carter) / Christopher Judge (Teal'c) / Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson) / Ben Browder (Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell) / Claudia Black (Vala Mal Doran) / Joe Flanigan (Lt. Colonel John Sheppard) / Tory Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) / David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay) / Rachel Luttrell (Teyla Emmagan) / Jewel Staite (Dr. Jennifer Keller)
The military ranks do not always match the explanations in the dioramas, O'Neill, Carter and Sheppard were promoted during their service at the SGC!
The little dog (Sky) does not originally belong to SG-1, but is a tribute to Amanda Tapping, who is a huge dog lover!
